About this place
A gentle push of the spoon into the softly cooked egg makes the omurice at ICHOYA an easy first choice. The kitchen prepares classic omurice wrapped around nostalgic chicken fried rice, alongside richer variations like a cheese-filled omelette or a curry version paired with deep, savoury beef curry.
Alongside familiar Western-style comfort dishes, the menu offers plenty of Kyoto flavors steeped in clear dashi broth. The house specialty is the yuba don, a soothing bowl of warm rice topped with delicate layers of fresh tofu skin and aromatic Kujo green onions bound in half-cooked egg. The noodle options are equally comforting, featuring classic nishin soba topped with tender, sweet-simmered dried herring, as well as yuba tsukimi soba that pairs fresh tofu skin with a soft egg.
Set along Horikawa-dori right in front of Nishi Hongan-ji, the dining room is outfitted with both regular table seating and tatami floor areas where sightseers can relax tired feet. Linger after your meal over a matcha milk float, shaved ice, or a sweet plate of matcha and mochi, making it an easy, unpretentious stop for lunch or an afternoon break while exploring the neighborhood.
